These taped-together pages from my notebooks were never intended for exhibition but, over the course of the last two decades, they’ve helped me understand what I’m doing and why I’m doing it. My interest is imperfection, ‘touching’ more than ‘mastering’, and these notebook pages allow me to ‘think aloud’ about where a picture is going before committing to a final print. Some have felt inconsequential, like failures, and many are discarded but they all document my search for ‘something’ and that process itself of tearing, gluing, writing and erasing is often its own strange reward.
