“Appelez-moi Victoria” is a visual archaeology which explores the notions of memory, genealogy and exile; a study linked to the consequences of immigration and Italian integration in France. Camille Carbonaro questions the construction of the self, the discovery of one’s own roots, and indeed one’s own generational journey and what is meant by historical memory. Situated at the crossroads between reality and fiction, this study serves as a mystical psychological journey examining one’s distant origins which have since seemingly vanished. It is through the theories of psycho-genealogy and psycho-magic proposed by Alejandro Jodorowsky that she is able to reflect on the grey areas of her own familial memory.
This project has been made as part of Residence 1+2 Photography & Science in Toulouse in 2018.
