Amber’s photographic work locates itself in fine arts practice. Using photographic techniques and alternative processes, she creates abstract work which echoes formal photographic structure. In this body of work, Amber uses the Mordançage process as a way of harnessing light as a fluid material, creating photographic abstractions. The work attempts to interrogate photographic realism and its traditional figurative connotations. Amber lifts pieces of photographic emulsion from exposed silver Gelatine paper forming veils of fabric like structures. The nature of the process assures one off creations of visual imagery and, much like the opening and closing of a camera shutter, the emulsion lifts from the paper and falls; seizing itself on the flat plane once again, but transformed.
