Photographs have shaped my memories. They are not always trustful, but neither is memory itself. We go after a recollection, looking for understanding or reaffirmation, but, as neurology has proved, we change that recollection just by calling it, just by the mention of it.
It sums all up as an editing problem.
“Umbral” is the spanish word for threshold: The entrance; the limit or the beginning of something. The only thing that this photographs have in common its the emptiness; the vortex to a black hole, the decay.
This project explores the materiality of photography and the relationship between memory and image. It was necessary that the beam of light went into the vortex; through the film, and made contact whit the photographic surface.
